Free rental of camping, hiking, and outdoor gear including tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, and winter equipment for all four seasons.
Free for all Dartmouth community with ID; one-week rental periods
Free outdoor gear rental from Robinson Hall for all students (bring your Dartmouth ID), plus free term-time DOC trips — day hikes, paddling, climbing — through the Trailhead sign-up. Multi-day break trips are subsidized (reduced cost), not fully free.
Gear rental is officially free for all students. Term trips are free; break trips are subsidized. The separate DOC First-Year Trips pre-orientation program charges a fee (waived up to 100% for aid recipients) and is not part of this listing.
Free overnight stays in DOC cabins at the Second College Grant for Dartmouth undergraduates. (Other DOC cabins near Hanover are paid rentals, $40–$250/night, and are not part of this free listing.)
Grant cabins are free for Dartmouth undergrads — reserve through DOC Outdoor Programs. Hanover-area cabins ($40–$250/night) and non-undergrad rates are paid and excluded from the free offering.
